If you read there it says wind speeds of over 500mph!
I would say that its way off!

Not all that long ago, before Ted Fujita developed his by-now-familiar scale linking damage to wind speed, tornado winds were commonly thought to blow much faster than they actually do. Estimates of five and six hundred miles an hour were common, and some thought the winds could even exceed the speed of sound.
