The national weather service in Desmoines just finished a survey of the tornados that struck in Marion, Poweshiek and Jasper Counties, there were 2 tornados one was rated an EF1 was around 150 yards wide and was on the ground for 5.5 miles (maximum estimated winds of 105 mph) and the other was a powerful EF2 with maximum estimated winds of 125 mph, was around 7/10THs of a mile wide and was on the ground for 22 miles!! I was dumbfounded when I learned of the DMX survey. I breifly chased this storm on my way home from NW Iowa. Although my Roaming Gnome gps icon shows I was close I feel what I was seeing was not the honey spot. I was just south of Ewart (not Elkhart as I mistakenly state in the video). Probably a good thing I missed the turn at Grinnell on I80 as I most certainly would have driven into a tornado.

Sure looks interesting Jerry...the intersecting bands kind of suggest that was the focal point for a circulation. I am pretty confident that was the tornado you were oberving there with rain wrapped around it. In what direction were you driving?

Also...I have sent in an E-Spotter report to DMX for the small tornado I observed Sunday evening north of the town of Lytton IA (Calhoun Co.)
