As many of you may know, I've been away on a 3-month retreat of sorts centered around a pending divorce between Shannon and myself. I left the board temporarily, not so much out of an emotional burden (we ended up on the same page about everything) but rather because of severely limited time on my part caused by our temporary separation, househunting, other projects, and the need to keep my business operating.
I'm glad to report that the divorce plans stalled in August and we've been on the road of reconciliation. I've waited this out for a long time before putting some of my pans back on the fire. Tonight I've put one back on, and that's Stormtrack.
During this time I've had full confidence in the moderator team... David, Jeff, Stuart, and Chris, I thank you all. David worked heavy overtime to fix the board a couple of months ago when we had some server issues, and I appreciate his work. I'll be finishing the vbulletin tweaks such as the site logo (fixed tonight) and, in a few days, those advertising banners that help keep the site afloat. I'm not sure we've had more than 1 or 2 paid advertisers; I'll have to check, but they'll be credited for the downtime.
It's been a long time since I've seen an October cold front as strong as the one we had today. The 50 kt postfrontal winds from the Great Plains down to the Sierra Madres, the massive Santa Anas, the rare NE winds in Nevada, etc, seem to reflect changes sweeping Stormtrack as we head into winter, one last stop before spring arrives. I'm back, Stuart and Chris have stepped down, and we'll be looking for new moderator blood. David has started that process already.
If you've sent PMs to me between mid July and now, I'm not ignoring you; I simply haven't logged in to get them. I'll answer back even if I haven't been able to help.
For what it's worth, there are two projects I've been working on this month, and they're all centered on severe thunderstorms. They are still under wraps but one is a DVD, another is a book; the latter one will be of more interest. I'll be announcing them in the marketplace section in a couple of weeks.
