An approaching cold front produced winds w/ gusts nearing hurricane strength in some parts of the state of Hawaii. The NWS issued a high wind warning, as well as a flash flood warning.

I was hoping for an opportunity to photograph lightning (a rare event in Hawaii), but the band of t-storms weakened just as it reached Oahu.

I did experience some intense winds, & witnessed a few power flashes which preceeded power outages. The rest of the island experienced downed utility poles & uprooted trees. The following link includes damage pics:

I thought there was a brief NWS Blizzard Warning for the high elevations on the islands due to snow and blowing snow. Not sure how long that lasted.

You are correct; that was for the Big Island. It lasted several hours until the winds subsided. It was funny hearing a blizzard warning on my weather radio in Hawaii!
