References are made to "systems aloft" or "elevated systems". Is there a rule of thumb as to what height these are referring to? I found one reference, "If you are not sure of what level to pick, here is a listing of the different pressure levels along with features that are usually analyzed at each level" (from a Tim V. book).

Examples:
1000mb - near surface
400mb - deep winter
300mb - winter half
200mb - summer half

Thanks once again!

Greg,

I believe that upper level systems can best be seen at the 500mb or the lower 700mb level when looking at plots. Others can please chime in with more information.
