I'm curious if anyone from Michigan or northern Indiana can relay their experiences about the intense squall line that roared through much of downstate Michigan during the predawn hours thismorning. Many reporting stations had gusts over 60mph and some had gusts approaching 80mph.
I noticed their were a couple of SVR's issued but lightning strikes were sparse at best. I'm guessing this was just a narrow zone of intense gradient winds and with the low topped convective cells along the front, the higher winds at the 900-850mb. level were being propelled to the surface, hence the locally intense wind gusts reported.

So I would love to here those reports. Merry Christmas!!!

The line smacked through here at around 8AM... nothing too intense, I'd say wind gusts up around 50-55MPH. I have no doubt though that some areas were able to briefly tap into the 70knts right off the deck, though...

Right now the winds aren't too bad at all... The gusts seem to be spread out temporally speaking, hitting 40MPH every now and then. I suspect winds might increase a bit more as the RUC shows low level winds increasing in the 21Z-03Z time frame. The problem is that the pressure rise/fall couplet is displaced pretty far to the east by that time, which will probably mitigate widespread gusts over 50MPH.

It actually started down here in Illinois. Warnings blanketed the eastern portion of the state. Some stations reported wind gusts of 60 mph.

It is snowing quite hard in Chicago right now with small very local bandings. Nothing major and will be quite quick but its nice. sw wind gusts at 45mph at times!

I filed the Schererville LSR through LOT this morning. Shingles off our roof, several fences damaged, branches down, winds reached about 60 MPH about 20 after 2 this morning.

76 mph knocked the power to my whole neighborhood from severe "thunderstorms" at around 2:30 AM. The powerpole 15 feet in back of my house broke off and numerous trees and powerlines scattered about.

88mph wind gust measured in Chicago with this line, for December it almost seems unreal. The neighborhood resembles a summer-time microburst.
