The last 2 days have been extremely cold here in Southeast Idaho. Last night we had a low of -20 with wind chill values of 30-40 below. The sliding doors that go to our backyard deck had a solid sheet of ice on them on the inside. My 2 cats that live outside had there whiskers freeze and for awhile I was really concerned till I saw them in the Morning laying in the sun playing. I dont see how animals can live thru this stuff. When I go outside and breathe it feels like my Mustache and nose hairs literally freeze in seconds. lol.

Whats the coldest Temperature for you guys so far?

The coldest it's been so far was actually just a few days ago. Bottomed out at -11 Sunday morning. I think the coldest windchill so far was just the day before that on Saturday, when it was down in the -25 range.

A few weeks ago, it was 23 degrees at Jacksonville Int'( KJAX), and 28 at NAS Jacksonville(KNIP) on the banks of the St. Johns River. Thats was when I was at home in Murfreesboro, TN. The morning of the 2nd, we bottomed out at 5 degrees, and Nashville hit 11, with a high, a HIGH of only 25 that day, with 25mph winds, felt near 0 all day!

We were in the upper teens last night. This past few days has been the coldest shot of air southern OK has seen all Winter.

As Slovenia is not as cold as some of your States, my record is only -2°F in calm air. But I respect the cold that I experienced 3 years ago on one mountain peak...it was -12°C (10°F) with measured wind gusts around 160km/h (100mph)...so you can imagine what an insane windchill it was :D Likely around -33°C (-25°F).

Well its starting to warm up. The low off of southern California is pushing the Flow to Southwesterly. Should be a little warmer after tommorow. I am shocked that so far out of 7 people that my area has been the coldest. i am guessing because of the market The Weather channel just doesnt talk about my area. I am sure my Area could have hit a few headlines this winter so far. Owell.

Stay Warm out there,.

At my house NW of Leadville the coldest we have had so far is -25F on Jan. 17. I guess this is average for a winter, but we were hoping that it would get colder that night. This did come during a relatively cold spell. We had 3 days in a row with at least -20F and 13 days in a row with sub zero low temps.

It was -3 at my house north of Santa Fe, NM, last week, the coldest it's been in two years.

Can't hang with you Eskimo's to our north but as Shane said, we got pretty cold here in Central OK last night with a 15 degree reading at the Norman Mesonet site at 5:55am. That is the coldest thus far this year and overnight tonight is supposed to be around 14. I'm ready for summer.

Saturday morning it was -17F here in far NW Missouri.

Wow, that sounds really cold for MO. How unusual is that for your area?

My low so far this winter is 10F. Not all that impressive. In the past 5 years we typically see 0-5F for the coldest of the season.

I've been watching sfc obs quite a bit lately trying to judge if it will be worth going out for river + ice + steam shots in the morning. It's a strange combo to me for some reason. I thought the station in sw IA was just off till I found another one with a similarly low low temp. One night it was -20F in far sw IA before midnight. This was at the Gravity IA station. Clarinda just west of there was -15F I believe. So I'd certainly believe that -17 in nw MO.

Anyway, the lowest around here has been -15F in Tekamah NE. I think tomorrow morning has a shot of beating it. RUC has been spitting out some very cold readings for western IA tonight. Showing -20 for nw IA at only 2 a.m. As the high sinks south, so will that cold cold air. Someone around here should get to -20. I may be wrong but it seemed that Omaha's all time record low was -22F. That shouldn't be in jeopardy but the low areas could see that.

Guess Omaha's record low is -32, not -22.

Supposed to be -12 degrees tonight for central Iowa not including the windchill which could make it feel like -25 to -30 degrees. This will be the coldest night so far this Winter and the coldest we have seen in 3 years. Northern Iowa has had temps with windchill -30 to -35 degrees already. I think MN was even colder.

I am ready for Summer and 70+ temps.

I am ready for Summer and 70+ temps.

Same here. Cant wait to see Green grass pop up and longer days. Havent felt warmth on the skin for a while outside. Opening my front or back door during this cold is pretty awesome with the steam pouring out. After 3 years it is still incredible to see how really cold it is outside with 65 degree air turning to immediate steam.

Thus far this 2007/2008 Winter has it been colder than last year for your area or not yet or not even close? For myself its pretty much the same as last winter. Only difference this year is my area got tons more snow. How about for everyone else?

Dewpoint:-13°F (-25°C)Wind Chill:-25°F (-32°C)

Currently -6 degrees outside with a high of 12 expected tommorow and a windchill of -25 degrees expected. ouch.

This year much colder than last year.

Currently sitting at -16 with still another hour or two to drop. Wind chill warning in effect now too. Windchills around are approaching -40!

That fresh 8" snowpack really made a difference.

My low so far this winter is 10F. Not all that impressive. In the past 5 years we typically see 0-5F for the coldest of the season.

As of now it's -10F, but it's supposed to start warming dramatically after today. Our current temp is about our normal extreme for lows, but this has been an extended period of arctic air which has been in place for about a week now. The -17 we had the other morning is rather unusual, but conditions were just right. If I remember right, about 50 miles in any direction and the temp was almost 10 degrees warmer.

EDIT: Now 22 minutes later, it's dropped to -13F.

I think I have a new all time low for myself, lol. My old was -18F years ago. Well it was -20F in Tekamah this morning, with lower readings around there. I went out and shot river/ice steam at 6 a.m. and am rather certain it was at least -20F out there on the flats. Steam production was nuts. If you ever want to see cool sundogs this is an excellent way. Also saw what I'd guess were 50-100 foot tall steam-nadoes. A pair of them were quite close. I never thought brutal cold could be this much fun. It was trying to kill my canon however. It was responding slower than I've ever seen.

It got down to -17 here again last night but was much better than -26 which was observed in Waterloo. I believe that was the lowest in IA. Still nothing compared to the -39 reading in Embarass MN.

Coldest here at my place was -2 and that was last night with a fading 1" snow cover. That area of SW Iowa and NW Missouri has been a target for some healthy snows this winter, and for very cold morning lows. My sister said their lowest was a -6 temp in West Des Moines IA.

Mt. Washington, NH is one of my favorite weather places.

Around DC though it's been mild. We did hit 12 degrees the other day as a low, but it's not uncommon for DC to see single digits at least once a year.

Ended up at -18 at my house, but just across the river in Clinton IA they hit -24 at the airport. Stanley IA (just north of Cedar Rapids) bottomed out at -28. Cedar Rapids itself reported -23.

Usually when it gets that cold the air is dead calm, but in this case some CAA was still taking place keeping winds up just a bit. This caused windchills to breach -40 in a few locations. I shutter to think what that would have been on the old wind chill scale...

Damn, already down to -18 and it's only 9pm! The ridge of high pressure is right on us however, so temps won't fall much more I wouldn't think. May even rise later tonight.

A few other sites close by are already at -20. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few areas in northern IL get close to -30 tonight...

Temps are really fluctuating in this light wind regime. Hit -21 about ten minutes ago, but have already bounced back up to -15. Very interesting. The slightest wind currents seem to stir the air just enough to raise temps quite a bit.

I saw anywhere from -10 to -15 F (wind-chill at least -30 F) last week (week of Jan 21-25) early morning here in Lansing, IL (south of Chicago).

Right now I'm in the Yukon, filming cold weather for "Angry Planet"
It's -41C (-41.8F) with a wind chill warning for -50C (-58F) to -60C (-76F)

Our camera gear is totally malfunctioning, cables snapping from the cold, even our heavy duty tripod is not working properly because the different parts of the legs are contracting at different rates and the legs don't want to stay locked.

All the moisture in the air is freezing into ice fog and even the snowmobiles are breaking down.

One of the things we're filming is the Yukon Arctic Ultramarathon. These super athletes run either 100 or 320 miles in the frigid cold, sleeping outside for up to 6 days, pulling a sled full of equipment. They are totally on their own if the run into trouble out there... Oh and there is no prize money for winning!

This is by far the coldest I've ever experienced.

Finally had a decoupling, radiational cooling event, instead of the usual -40 wind chill cold air advection scenario, and thus the coldest temperature of the winter season. Made it down to -15.1 this morning. Thank you 20 inches of snow on the ground.
