We are looking for a good place to get a hand held anemometer. Any suggestions?

Kestrel 3000 seems to be the standard, which measures wind, temperature and dewpoint I've seen them for about $129 shipped. Was thinking of purchasing one myself. A Google search will yield many places to get them.

I have a Kestral 3000 as well but I'v been wanting to get a cup anenomter since I think that is much better since it don't haft to be staight in to the wind.

www.inspeed.com is a great site for them.

I originally had the Kestrel 2000, which I enjoyed so much that I followed it up with the 3500. Just make sure you're pointing into the wind!

You can find 'em at pretty decent prices at West Marine. I bought mine while on vacation in Florida a few years back. Hurricane Francis was heading our way so I decided to pick one up.

I have been after getting one of these for some time. However, being UK based they cost twice as much over here. Obviously I am tempted by the US prices but a lot of US companies don't send to the UK, and if they do I get stung for import tax.

So does anyone know where I could buy one of these (a Kestrel) in a shop (ie not on the internet) somewhere in the Plains, as I will be over chasing from May 19. Last year we tried Gander Mountain but they didn't have anything (although they did have lots and lots of guns and knives which is quite shocking for a Brit!)

Helen, here's the website of the manufacturer: http://www.nkhome.com/ . You can look for dealers in the state(s) you expect to be in when you come. I bought my 3000 for instance at a "Cabelas" (a sporting goods store) a while ago in North Dakota. You can also e-mail ahead of time to the store in question to see if they have what you want in stock.

Cheers - I might try that as we will be going wherever the storms take us! It's difficult trying to work out who sells what in what stores sometimes.

Helen - I have sent you a PM regaring a great eBay shop that I brought a Kestral 4000 from in the last week.
