Is there a "list" somewhere of city abbreviations? I figured out some of the target areas by looking at the map but there are a few that I still can't pinpoint.

This might help:
http://adds.aviationweather.gov/metars/stations.txt
Just hit CTRL-F and type in the abbreviation you're looking for.

Another good reference is the Northern Illinois Surface Plot Maker (NIU) (http://www.stormchaser.niu.edu/machine/surface2.html) which will produce detailed maps of ICAO Airport Codes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Civil_Aviation_Organization_airport_ code). Choose the following options:
Choose Plot Type:
Station ID's
Choose Station Density
All Stations
Choose by Region
*enter your map region here*
