Sorry man, my best "humor" shot was the audio in your vehicle when we got cored and were trying to escape it, your face red and veins bulging more with each loud metalic baseball sized thud, and I just had to ask "Is this a good time to say I told you so?" If I ever release a video, THAT clip is going on it!
We laughed so much a few days there my abdomen muscles were actually sore for a while. You can't buy that kind of good chasing fun! Although I would have given anything to had my camera on Dennis the minute that lightning struck the fence about a 1/4 mile down and it grounded at the metal gate next to him with a loud ZAP. At which time I asked, "Didn't anyone warn you about my legendary lightning attraction abilities?" and he says "You could have told me that BEFORE that happened!"

Indeed! Here is the result of not listening to your chase partner who is watching radar and GPS that it's time to go NOW!

Of course, one should listen to their chase partner when they say a tornado is imminent, right? ;-) Lots of good times that long weekend to be certain! :D

These couple of days were a couple of the funniest, scariest, most enjoyable, and memorable in a lot of years.
In addition to above, I also think back to the night before the lightning attack standing next to David, when I was trying to outrun the tornado I saw right in front of me during a lightning strike. I was flying down this dirt road at close to 9:15 at night. I never looked back as I didn't want to see this black blob again. All I remember was the wind was blowing me sideways for what seemed like a mile or more.
I saw a set of headlights that looked like they were miles away. I finally got to them and there were three guys (Jay McCoy, Jeff Bernard, and Jason Boggs) busting their guts laughing at me. I must have looked like some wild man slamming on the brakes and bailing out of the car, saying: "I will never chase at night again!" So of course, the next night, we all do it again and Jay and Jeff reminded me of it as we are stopping to eat at midnight at Sonic.
No physical pictures other than what Steve posted from the next morning outside the motel, but some great pictures in my mind. THANKS guys.

If you are a guy, the place to be during a tornado is the first Indiana rest area along I-74. The men's room is not designated.

Skip,
Was that after we ran into you guys at the gas station in Salina, KS, in late May? Dan and I noticed that you guys had something on the roof of your vehicle when you drove off towards the on-ramp to I135 in SLN, but I can't remember what it was (a drink? some fries?).

Haha... yes, May 25th. That was my 'Twister' moment (Dr. Reeves- lemonade). The weather gods were hungry and I sacrificed my tasty fries to appease them.. that paid some nice dividends (http://vimeo.com/1067860)!

We were on this storm E of SPI on May 30th (this is the one that had the alleged report at 5th and Cedar in the SVS in SPI). We were videotaping when he driver asks, "What is the threat for lightning?" and the cameraman says "I don't care."
This was about two minutes later.

I finally got a humor shot for 2008. Get the sunscreen Amarillo, it's going to be HOT!!! 8,882 degrees as a matter of fact. I just can't understand why they are just going with WARM instead of hot!
This is not a trick. It is an actual photo of the TV. Maybe they need to hire a proof reader.

I think it was June 3,(2008). I was chasing that day and came back to Olathe , KS (near Kansas City). I put my Green Saturn in the driveway like I always do. My wife's nissan was right next to it. I new a storm was going to barrel through later in the early morning around 1am. And so it did. Hurricane force 1 like winds came through.
My wife wakes me up at 1:30am and says the line of the year (for us) "what's the tree doing in the driveway?" . I pulled on my pants and hopped outside and surenuff the friken thing, for the third time, in several years , broke and collapsed.
But this time it was not funny as a little piece of the branch hit my windshield and cracked it.If I was one inch farther out in the driveway the windshield would have been spared!. I should have taken it out 2nd time and saved the $200 to get windshield replaced plus $75 to get the stump and everything else out.
In any case, insurance company brought their van and replaced the windshield IN THE DRIVEWAY while I was cutting up the tree. So that was nice and quick way to get the car in shape again.
The moral of the story is : If you have a Bradford pear, get rid of it now and save yourself some grief later on before you see your tree in your driveway!

This was from last Thursday. This actually isn't too funny. I was damn near struck by lightning while standing out in the middle of nowhere shooting lightning to the north. I'm not exactly sure how close the bolt hit, but it was WAAAAYYY too close for comfort. The light streaks are from a lightning bug and my dome light in the truck. As soon as the bolt struck I picked up the tripod and literally threw it in the truck with the shutter still locked open. I think I'm still shaking from that incident.

I was up sort of late one night back in June (the 23rd to be exact) and I was checking out the latest MCD. I can't help but think that someone at SPC had themselves a good chuckle over this one. In my opinion, the Kansas/Nebraska border is the proverbial "rug that ties the room together" in Big Lebowski terms.

Memorable quotes:
Craig: I'm all for excitement. I'm going to live until I die.
--------------
Me: I used to have nightmares about tornadoes, but they stopped when I started chasing. I used to think it was because I was confronting a fear or whatever, but now I know it's because they'd all just turn outflow dominant now even in my dreams.
-------------
(May 22nd, approaching twilight)
Fabian: Why are you giving up!? There's another storm approaching on 283!
Me (whining): Oh, we were just on 283 north of the interstate, and now we're watching it on a dirt road by Collyer. It is crap. Outflow dominant as usual. I'm watching a scudnado right now, looks like a little rope tornado. Man, what a day.
Fabian: NO, not where you are now. There's a new one to the south of Wakeeney. Quit moping and CHASE IT!
Me (moping): Ok. We'll try ...
Fabian: Call me back after you get your first tornado! (click)
[Later, driving south toward Trego Center, after the tornado south of Wakeeney touched down]
Craig: Well, you've seen your first tornado.
Me: Yeah. Now help me get out of this s#*$.
----------
Craig: Wait, it isn't pronounced "Wankeny?"
----------
May 22nd at Applebees:
Me (thinking to myself): It seems like everyone except for Chuck Doswell himself is here.
[five minutes later]
Chuck: Hello, I'm Chuck Doswell. Nice to meet all of you.
-----------
May 23 [heading toward a different storm south of an approaching wall cloud]
Me: Craig, you do know the wall cloud right in front of us is huge and rotating. I kinda don't want to drive under that.
Craig: Nah. It's just vertical motion. It's getting cut off by the one to the south.
[3 minutes later, we're under it and it's definitely rotating]
Me: Dude, it's rotating.
Craig (realizing it): ... eh, it looks like complete s@#* anyway. You can turn your camera off, this is a pretty worthless storm. But don't, uh, let that slow you down or anything though.
--------
Dennis (May 24, referring to my story on being on the wrong side of the Quinter wedge): At least you didn't have to escape it by going 80 down a dirt road.
--------
Me (for the twentieth time): Hey, Elton, where's the warm front?
--------
Josh: Um, Darrin, I'll tell you this because you're new, but there's a fairly good reason why the ETA and WRF are in agreement.
---------
[After a particularly hard bust April 7th]
Me: So, you guys wanna get something to eat?
Jayson: Nah. I just wanna go home.
Josh: Yup. Me too.
Craig: Yeah, I'm not even hungry.
Me: Ice cream?
Jayson: Sure!
Josh: Sounds good!
Craig: Sweet! Isn't that Braum's place in Guthrie?
------------
Fabian: So then she says, "why go all the way to Oklahoma when you can just bust here?"
------------
My gal: So you drove all night looking for hail? We had huge hail right outside the door right after you left. Our yard was buried in it.

Well, I just found the most humorous "shot." Reviewing my May 22nd footage a moment ago revealed that I had tape running the entire time of the Trego co. TOR south of "Wankeny," and as I had my camera firmly on the dash that day, it should have captured the beautiful pumpkin-orange pencil tornado in its entirety, at least on the periphery. Since Craig dropped his camera while filming it, then, blocking out copious cursing for the storm to "get its f#$# act together, all the cheering and congrats from Craig, and then the growing concern about the RFDs nearly blowing me off the road in Trego Center, my footage should serve as a suitable replacement for a decent, steady capture of my first (memorable) tornado.
That is, if I'd removed the camera cap.

It was a humorous post. Some people maybe didn't get it...whatever...that's 50% of everyone with anything these days. No need to brand anyone for their "lack of thick skin"...I think some people are just trying to tiptoe around this forum and not make waves...and I feel partly responsible for that because I've been involved in more than my share of antics on this site.
It's July, we got a long, crappy off-season ahead of us (save for those with the $$$s :-), so let's just relax and enjoy the lives we've been given.
