Saw a waterspout on the new KMBC in Kansas City of a very tall waterspout.

Not sure if it is this one that has photos (it was wider)

The image where the "feature" is vertical had me fooled...but closer inspection of the other three images makes me think this was an optical illusion that fooled a laymen. I could always be wrong but it sure looks like a helluva look-a-like when you look at all four images in the sequence.

Unless I'm wrong, this is yet another inaccurate weather story hitting the press.

It looks like a simple outflow or frontal passage cloud with a unique combination of parallax and haze. I made a simple animation and attempted to crudely "stabilize" the field of view, as seen here:

Plus on the earlier frames you can see no vertical development to this cloud line. If someone is trying to pass this off as a waterspout, I wonder who it is and what the motives are for propagating erroneous information. As with the "Katrina" pics it may be worth considering whether the pics are stolen, too.

No water spout there, you can see it continue on around to the right on the horizon. just a line or outflow of sorts.

I agree - definitely not a waterspout. I have seen countless waterspouts over lake Ontario, all very thin, narrow, and develop under towering cumulus towers when a cold airmass moves over the warm waters typically from late August through October.

Looks like a weak roll cloud, i mean the edge of one overhead, but its for sure not a waterspout...
