The RENO NWS has issued a report on the severe weather that moved through Nevada on July 21st. There were several tornado reports that day and I'm surprised (except for a little mention in the Maine Tornadoes thread) that it didn't get much attention on here.

Here is the report (http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/getprod.php?wfo=rev&sid=rev&pil=pns).

Reading the report they say there was no confirmed tornadoes and only funnel clouds were reported and I do not see any tornado reports on the SPC reports page for July 1st. Where did you see tornadoes were reported?

I was following the storms on noaa's site that day. I have some friends that live in Reno and it caught my interest. I saw a trained spotter report indicating a tornado on the ground in Churchill county on Spotter Network. Here is a pic of the tor warned area. It was exciting to see a tornado possibility so close from home (close being 6 hours away). But we don't get much action in Southern Oregon.

Some radar frames for this event with topography and roads included:

0000Z (http://www.weathergraphics.com/tim/nv_0000.jpg)

It's not as good as a time lapse radar image, but it's enough to show how the event progressed.

The reports are still on the page http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/080721_rpts.html, although it went from three to two reports. I'm assuming they are still preliminary and Reno hasn't updated their survey yet.

Thanks I was looking at the wrong day for the SPC storm reports. My mistake. Interesting but not suprising that NV can see tornado events such as this. I wonder how common is this?
