High Winds Causing Large Wildfire in Boulder County, Colorado

A very large wildfire has been started due to high winds downing a powerline near Niwot in Boulder County. 7News has taken some dramatic video of the fire as it has destroyed a farming structure of some sort.

No word on injuries or other destroyed structures at this time. Another station in Denver had a ground crew kicked out of the area live as the fire threatened to jump the road.

My dad lives in Lake Valley Estates which has been evacuated. The winds continue out of the west at 30mph gusting to 50 - this one could end up taking a few homes unfortunately.

I live in South Boulder and have been watching the fire from my deck all night. The winds have definitely died down some but it's still breezy. I just looked again and you can still see the line inching to the SE towards town. Hopefully the property loss is kept to a minimum.

Winds were still quite brisk as I came up I-25 north of Denver at 8pm MT this evening. Hopefully since the fire crossed hwy 36 it will make it easier to fight and set up fire breaks vs. having to battle it up in the foothills.

At this late hour winds have subsided and the fire has finally laid down. Here it is as it burned around the Olde Stage Road ridge leaving it nothing left to consume.
