I hadn't seen any posts about Friday's "surprise" tornado event in NC. One of the tornadoes near Fayetteville was rated EF2, and tornado video on TV was fairly impressive for a subtle event and setting that was not outlooked or had no watches.

For anyone interested, I looked back at Friday and put together a short case study focusing on some potentially relevant features on my blog here (http://davieswx.blogspot.com/).

A tough event to pick out in advance...

Thanks for that. Took notice of the unexpected event and my mind immediately went back to some of your previous work in this area. Had figured these were low toppers, and right on the low.

I had hopped that the 23rd would materialize with this sort of setup in N Central Nebraska when I was out chasing, but no dice. (will have to review the conditions there -- thought we had some decent low level CAPE)

Just like ESPN has a east coast bias.....SPC has a great plains bias.

OK, that's not true. Thanks for the write up...its very interesting
