I have finally updated my lightning pages with images from my latest encounters. By far the best was December 13 when a small and fast moving storm produced numerous Cloud to Air bolts.

Michael,
December 13th 2004 was an excellent event with a supercell line early then other storms following. During the evening and night, this storm in particular intensified within hint of the coastline and spat those awesome lightning bolts you have captured. Well done!!

Hi Kurt,
I must confess to being on the 'dark' side - that is using digital over film.
I have a Nikon 5400 which allows for shutter speeds to 10 mins.
I generally use 1 min to 3 min exposures. I vary aperture on simply how close the lightning is. Fully open for storms that are 30 plus miles away, closing down as the action gets closer. Even then some of the bolts from 6-8 December were burnt out., so I could have used a more closed aperture.

Those are some amazing lightning photos! I personally like the November 1st set the most.

Hi guys,
The pictures I have from the most recent chase in late December (23rd to 27th inclusive) are now ready and online:
http://www.australiasevereweather.com/vide...deo/index2.html (http://www.australiasevereweather.com/video/index2.html)
All of the chases were in New South Wales eastern Australia and basically up to 6 hours drive north west of Sydney.
Some favourites and the individual chases by day are as follows:
23rd December 2004 lightning show and an extremely active MCS at that. Some very close cg's observed and captured on video. Some good timelapse showing overall rotation in the storm.

Some more here
25th December 2004 Storm near Gunnedah was chased from intitiation - developed some very nice structure as it suddenly began to organise. Put out some great lightning as well. I very much doubt I have ever seen as many anvil to clear air lightning as this storm - quite dangerous to be out of the vehicle in this type of situation.

Some pretty anvil crawlers kept me entertained

27th December 2004 Met up and then chased with Michael and Bath Dave Ellem - too many storms on this day - I liked the earlier one better - not bad for 8:30am to 9:30am. Obviously very low bases and time-lapse seems to indicate rotation

Hi Jimmy
A all day / overnight chase on Christmas day, that is something I will never live to pull off.
Good to see somebody on this system. I thought it had potential.

Michael,
Yes it is a no - no to miss Christmas Day as it is a family occasion. But with several days either side of Christmas, I decided it was too good an opportunity to miss. And definitely I am glad I never missed this event as it was one the most lightning active events I personally have witnessed in this country. The lightning at sunset though was something with a difference.
