Please forgive me if this is covered in a previous post.

My limited understanding of the situationals involved makes me think that landspouts and gustnadoes are primarily different only in their relative locations, i.e. along shelf/roll clouds for gustnadoes and in main updrafts or flanking lines for landspouts. Is this correct? Are there any interchangeable factors or qualities between them?

I saw my first gustnadoes in June 2004 just west of Stratford, TX. Finally got something on video that was rotating on the ground.

This article may help: What is a tornado? (http://www.cimms.ou.edu/~doswell/a_tornado/atornado.html). (It was linked to from an article someone posted in answer to my meso question.) I just read it over my lunch break, but I believe it covers the topics you ask about.
