Hi everybody,
We got an interesting set-up in Sern China today. This is from 08:00 AM local time, things are going to change very rapidly as the day heat build up. Dews are in order of 25C, with constant deep sfc flow from the SSE well inland.
Look at this:

Ooops, got a cell developing too early to my SW (I am at the edge of the gulf in the middle).
http://www.weather.gov.hk/wxinfo/radars/rad/ra256_20050504_1148.jpeg
Anyway seems this is not hindering the heat development quite much, as now I record:
Mostly cloudy skies
T: 87F
Dew: 73F
Ur: 62%

Hi,
This zone of China is a miny alley, both for supercellular storms (with hailstorms and tornadoes) from March to late May and typhoon-spawned tornadoes from July to October.
Anyway, this storm is getting organized

Definitely not, is too early and is only rain and maybe hail. :?
The attached image has been captured on a supercell on April 25th that lasted for hours and crossed the entire radar from W-NW to E-SE (with SW flow aloft.... so right deviating) and devasted several locations with hail and very high wind, and flooded many others.
That was more interesting... :)

:)
That morning storm ruined the games, but now the anvil prp are helping the atmosphere to get even more humid (dews increasing !!).
Is clearing now, if the sun come out we'll see more action coming up at noon. New storms building about everywhere.

The south edge of the anvil extend up to my head (the center of the radar). Of course I am referring to the nice developed hook.

Simone,
Can you supply a Web URL to those (and presumably other RDA sites) WSR-98D images?

Simone,
Can you supply a Web URL to those (and presumably other RDA sites) WSR-98D images?
Yes:
Reflectivity:
http://www.grmc.gov.cn/tqsk/gzrad_r.asp
Base velocity:
http://www.grmc.gov.cn/tqsk/gzrad_v.asp
Radar of HK (reflectivity only):
http://www.weather.gov.hk/wxinfo/radars/radar.htm
Unfortunately that's it... :?
Maybe in the future they will improve the radar system. Sometimes (when very serious conditions appears) they publish other radar images, zoomed very in detail and with very high quality, also with some warning marks drawn on the base map.

Nice to see that almost every country's government supplies free radar images......except the UK. :? Noooo.....us British have to "guess" what's around the corner......if you want anything more detailed than dumbed-down TWC (minus satellite and radar) info you're out of luck.

Anyway China is very sensitive to weather, since it is strike constantly every year by severe weather during the spring and summer.
I read somewhere they are going to extend radar nationwide.

That program is well underway, the CINRAD network, comrpised of WSR-98Ds supplied by Lockheed Martin. These are very similar to WSR-88Ds, with similar RDA and OPRG systems. A similar network was installed in Romania, giving that county the most advanced European radar network (these are S-band radars).

Yes, definitely a bad place for chasing. However now they built a lot brand new Highways across all the province, I am trying to study a map to see whether it can be suitable.
However, the "probable" supercell of yesterday spawned a tornado and a hailstorm in the area, get from the news last night. About 430 houses destroyed (so they said) and I saw many very large tropical trees break in the middle. I guess F1/F2 ? The hail was about 2 inches, guessed from the holes in roof of some houses....
If I find some web pictures I'll post them.

Very strong sfc flow (some HK stations are reporting GALE force winds, up to 35 kts) and dew-point well established into the 25°C.
Here some of the latest radar shots:

The sfc deep low pressure system is dropping southeast, right to my W-NW. ... Strong showers are also coming in from the south (sea) and bringing more unstable air mass to the convergence line:

This more than suspect cell completely crossed a big city, QINQYUAN, the city of the sounding...........
http://www.ghidini.cn/__tmp/supercella_qingyuan.gif
Tonight I'll check the news again.
Anyway, that sounds like a lot of destruction from that tornado. I hope that injury and death were minimal to zilch, but I suspect that if 2 inch hail is putting holes in the roofs, that there is probably not a lot of confidence in the structure of the buildings unfortunately.
Definitely poorly constructed buildings in the country side. :?

The strong storm in the center is right to my north, now is dark and the lighting show is simply unbelieveable, I cannot count how many lighntings per second, the sky is practically switched on !! :!:
Low clouds fractus inflowing in the storm at a very rapid speed.

Is gonna be a long night... Seems to the far north everything is merging into a huge MCC/MCS, while to the south of the convergence line storms continuously fire up. The provincial government issued red and black (maximum) rainstorm warnings for half a region...
Those storm look awesome from radar.
:)
In real the visibility is often not so good cause the very high humidity down here, so they are not very photogenic :(
Anyway this year I have a digital camera and I'll try to catch a chinese storm. Sometimes it also clear up a bit and shows many storm details.

Ok :D Happy to hear that.
The next low pressure system is already forming in the back of this one. From the maps it should be a little stronger due to more thermal monsoon effect of the central and northern China.
By the way, last night got several passages of squalls with heavy rain, little hail and strong winds. Temperaure and dews dropped considerably. Everything lasted about 5 hours....

I'm serious.......with each successive shot my adrenaline kept rising and rising. I'm blown away!! I never would have guessed that you get that type of tornadic weather in China.
And I agree..........what a great forum this is.
Thank you again, Simone.

Thanks very much to you also :D
I will make you happy very soon  , this is the analisys for next week:
http://www.hko.gov.hk/wxinfo/currwx/fnd.htm
THE TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE NOW AFFECTING THE NORTHERN PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA WILL WEAKEN IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. ANOTHER TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE WILL BRING UNSETTLED WEATHER TO CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN CHINA EARLY NEXT WEEK.
The part marked in bold is to point that the position of the trough (extending from central China to the SW towards southwestern China) that here is simply perfect for severe weather, with W-NW flow aloft and strong S-SW flow at sfc.
Dews are never a problem around here: 8)

Australia is still working on getting doppler radar around the country. I believe that there are a few currently in operation, but it's not a nationwide thing yet. They're also working on getting a mosaic similar to what we have in the US.
