With all the talk of cheap wireless data, I thought this inexpensive homebrew gadget was worth throwing into the pot. Some of these guys are getting incredible db gains ~24db!

The pic on your second link is pretty funny too. Strange looking indeed, but I guess you can't judge by looks.

Yeah, some of it looks silly but 5, even 10 miles is a long way to suck in a data connection. I know I've sat next to some houses and hotels pulling in a connection, and gotten some weird looks with all the antennas on my truck. Sitting a ways away seems a little more low profile...of course, explaining the kitchen utensil with a wire going to your computer to the local police...

That's where the ham license comes it. Just show the license and say you're going mobile. Not even a lie. Just keep it under 100w.... :lol:

Yep. That’s why even when connected to wifi, I still leave the cell phone plugged in. Many motels have gas stations, restaurants, ect around them and I try to park at these places if possible.
