I do not know much about this phenomenom, but many vetrans on the board have observed such in many satelite loops during severe wx events....Does anybody know or have insight to the cause and effect of such? I belive the ripple/wave like carracteristics that occur out ahead of convection from time to time..

You know...Scott Stephens might disagree and say those satellite signatures are caused by the Russian Government's manipulation of our weather. http://www.weatherwars.info/index.php

Gravity waves caused by convection are an active area of research at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. I have been using high resolution MODIS and AVHRR to identify cases since late last year. These have been put into a web database for other academic and government institutions to review.
