Check this out! (http://www.livescience.com/forcesofnature/060606_cloudsat_images.html) This new CloudSat satellite looks like it gives cross-sections of weather systems! Crazy. The article says it is a "radar satellite," so I wonder what kind of doppler information this can provide (wind speed and direction?), and if this will have some impact on severe weather forecasting and studies in the future.
Anybody else have any more information on this? It looks wicked cool.
