Default Remnants of Ike hit Iceland

Good day. I hope I write this at the right place.

Remnants of Hurricane Ike hit Iceland early this morning local time, causing winds gusting up to 75 mph and heavy rains. There has been some reports of the damage. Emergency services were quite active last night and in Reykjavik, and a small airplane got blown into a fence by the winds.

So far, I have found only one news report from the storm area, and this is from Iceland Review.

I won't get to see this cyclone, a high pressure area will block it from reaching my neck of the woods. However, at least the GFS model forecasts that Norway and Sweden could get some rain from it.

A trailing front from the depression that formed from the remnants of Ike is currently giving some fairly heavy bursts of rain across parts of NW Ireland and W Scotland - but the UK hasn't seen any strong winds from it as the system tracked out over Iceland. Nice to see the jet stream back in it's rightful place!

According to weatheronline peak gusts for Iceland on yesterday were:

    Keflavik (54 m) 75 mph
    Akureyri (27 m) 71 mph
    Reykjavik (61 m) 62 mph
    Egilsstadir (23 m) 58 mph

Central pressure was a round 966 hPa and the system shows well in yesterday's 00z Fax Chart from the UK Met Office:

http://www.icelandreview.com/iceland..._0_a_id=312222 - Some new media reports are out from Iceland. Apparently one airport has measured a wind of 47 m/s. I have not found any confirmation to this elsewhere though.
